Hotels in Union Square

"What a charming hotel! All the staff were welcoming, kind, and very accommodating. As a VIP member I received a chilled bottle of white wine and some delicious popcorn! The room was spacious enough to hold 5 luggage bags!! I was traveling for between two work conferences. I traveled with my sister and we had two queen beds. The queen beds were so comfortable, it made some mornings difficult to get out of bed and head to our work conference! I never made it to breakfast but did have a cup of coffee one morning and it was good. The restaurant downstairs looked charming. The hotel is about a 5 min uber drive to the convention center. Traffic is bad in the mid-afternoon. Otherwise uber everywhere. The Hotel is located around a safe area however 2-3 blocks wandering you could end up in uncomfortable territory. The front desk staff is amazing at helping out with directions, recommendations, and are even kind enough to bring your door dash/UberEATS to your room. The cleaning staff are prompt and meticulous. Overall, this charming hotel was a great stay. I would Definity recommend this hotel to anyone (family, couples, or singles). I will definitely be staying here my next visit! "

"Staff was lovely. Hotel was clean but our a/c did not work great and the bed was not super comfortable, Kind of a hip, gritty, centrally located. Room was small but clean and dog friendly, but no close places to walk the dog that were not all sidewalk or only straight up a hill. Coffee shop in lobby was great and appreciate the water fountain on the floor. Surprisingly quiet for an old building. It’s got character which is better than a cookie cutter chain. 75 bucks for valet parking is a new all-time high. Remember when rooms were $75 a night? ( I don’t because I am not that old, but I’m sure that would have been cool."

"The Handlery has maintained some of the original character of the hotel while updating for modern convenience. The staff are polite, helpful, and very accommodating. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, and the convenience and proximity to downtown and restaurants makes it very walkable inconvenient. Half a block to the trolley on Powell Street. Half a block to Union Square station. We would definitely stay here again for both business and pleasure."

"Most of the staff were hospitable but some seemed to be of minimal help. For example, in addition to the list of restaurants provided on the flyer, we asked the FD where else would they recommend in the city and the staff pointed to the flyer. Obviously, did not hear my question and wasn't interested in conversing. The desk was not busy. Also, the property advertised as having an in-house bar but during our stay from Thur to Mon night, there was a bartender on Thur night only. No one there rest of the time and FD said 'he didn't come in'. Also, when the bartender was there on Thur night, he closed at 10P; we read that the bar opens until 11P. Some folks arrived at 10:30P, others at 10:45P wanting one drink but everyone left disappointed."
