The Kuala Lumpur Light Rail Transit (LRT) is a public rail transport service that runs 2 major routes, the Kelana Jaya LRT line and Ampang LRT line.
The Kelana Jaya LRT line operates an approximate 27-km course from north to south, between Kelana Jaya (in the Klang Valley, 17 km from the heart of KL) and Gombak (16 km from the city centre). The Ampang line is broken up into 2 destinations – travelling a distance of 20 km and 11 km respectively. Both routes start at the Sentul Timur LRT Station in the north of Kuala Lumpur, with the 1st route ending in Sri Petaling in the south, while the 2nd course ends in Ampang in the eastern suburbs of the city.
Our handy Kuala Lumpur Light Rail Transit (LRT) guide will point you in the right direction of the best-known landmarks close to several LRT stations, particularly those that are noteworthy to out-of-town travellers. The LRT operates between 6 am and midnight, with new trains arriving once every 3 to 15 minutes.
Be advised that the train lines get particularly busy from 7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 7 pm, when office workers use them to commute back home to suburban neighbourhoods surrounding the city centre.
The 1st stop on the Kelana Jaya LRT route, the Kelana Jaya LRT Station is one of the most frequently used stops for Klang Valley residents who work in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. As a result, expect to encounter a lot of commuters heading into the city during the morning office rush, and the same amount disembarking at this station from 5 pm onwards.
Surrounding the Kelana Jaya LRT Station are rows of atmospheric storefronts, local offices, and a local medical diagnostics centre. There are also a few casual and trendy local restaurants.
