"The art deco style was great and everything went pretty smoothly. Altogether a generally positive experience. The lobby is one level up from the ground floor, which was confusing at first since there was no sign to indicate that. The front desk staff was very curt at check in, like he’d had a bad day, but was not directly rude. It put a bit of a damper on the excitement of traveling. The room is quite small, though nicely furnished. It was fine for me traveling by myself, but my cousin and her husband found the room very small and had difficulty getting ready for a wedding in such tight quarters. A tip for those who wants scones during their free tea & scone service in the afternoon: go early if you want a scone. They won’t replenish them once they are gone, and the staffer said they go quickly."

"I don’t understand the excellent reviews at this hotel. The hotel was in a great location. However the room was very dated and smelled of mildew and mold. Shower was filthy. Furniture was falling apart. Would not stay here again. "

"I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. The room was very old and had a strong unpleasant smell as soon as we entered. The bed was also too short and uncomfortable, making it impossible to rest properly. Because of these issues, we decided to leave after only one hour and could not continue our stay. I would not recommend this hotel."

"Good location but terrible experience. There was one staff member who was kind and helpful when we checked out but the other two I encountered were really unpleasant. I usually don’t have a car in cities but I needed one this trip due to my work conference being outside the city with no easy transportation to and from. The valet situation was a nightmare! One of the morning I called for my car and no one answered. I walked down to the front desk and the gentleman actually rolled his eyes and huffed at me after I asked for my car to be retrieved. It took 20 minutes and I was late for my conference. The next day I woke up extra early and called a half an hour early to accommodate for the time it takes to get the car and it ended up taking 35 minutes. I was in tears and again late for my conference. Overall not a good experience and would not recommend. The place is outdated and the pillows are not comfortable. "

"I never made it to hotel due to airline canceling flight. The hotel would not give me full refund for something that was out of my control. I WOULD NEVER BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL AGAIN. there should be courtesy given when your flight is canceled and you have no way to get there. "

"The best thing for me about the Palmer House Hotel is its location just steps from the Red Line El Monroe station and only a block from the Blue Line Monroe station that goes to O'Hare Airport. It is one block from a large, convenient Target, a spectacular Macy's in the old Marshall Fields building and a block from the Art Institute Museum and another block to Milleneum Park (with the "bean" sculpture). Great theaters, restaurants and sites right out the door, and a Starbucks and easy menu order/pickup store with all kinds of quick pickup options all located just steps out of the elevator. This is a convenient, lovely, interesting hotel that is my first choice when staying in the "loop" in downtown Chicago. You don't really have to even leave the hotel to have an interesting array of things to see (the ceiling in the main dining/lobby area is stunning. And, the spa is great."
