This is a lovely hotel in an absolutely beautiful setting. The staff are genuinely kind and welcoming, and the restaurant manager went out of his way to make my daughter’s 20th birthday special with complimentary pancakes and a candle. The hotel was clean, felt freshly decorated. We particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and steam room, which were all lovely. Overall, I really liked the feel of the place and the people, and I would stay here again.
That said, the hotel doesn’t quite feel like a 4-star yet. Service was often slow, especially in the bar on our first night, as there simply weren’t enough experienced staff. Some important details were missing in the rooms: a floor-length mirror, coffee maker, mini fridge, robes for everyone (we were four), flannels, tissues, conditioner, and lamps by the sofa bed. Our spacious suite actually felt rather bare and would have benefited from some extra furniture. A water cooler on each floor would also have been appreciated.
The second bed, a sofa bed, was too small for our adult children, though the staff did kindly offer us an additional single room. Breakfast was fine, but a higher-quality bread would have been welcome. Some facilities were unavailable (the sauna and lift were both out of order), and the drinks were disappointing-cocktails from a packet and a poor-tasting Guinness. With more staff and attention to these small but important details, the hotel could truly live up to its 4 star rating.
