Our room was on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking the ocean. Vaulted ceiling made the room feel even bigger. Space heater only but not needed because the room temp was perfect both day and night. We had trouble figuring out how to access apps on TV but one phone call to manager and it was resolved quickly. Room, bathroom and bedding all clean. Plenty of towels and extra blankets if needed. Stunning view! Left slider open with fresh air, sound of ocean waves and sea lions barking in the distance. Made for great night sleep. Beds were hard, need pillow toppers. There is no staff on site that you are allowed to contact. Cleaning crew office has a sign not to bother staff. That was very weird for us old school folks! We needed to known where to find an ATM in the area and had no help from this Hotel. Plan ahead with cash and call manager with questions. Manager was very nice and helpful. There is a wifi password which helped our cell phones work in this Hotel. Restaurant in building was great for breakfast. Good food, great view. We are definitely going to stay here again because despite no staff on site, we had a great stay and wonderful visit to Shelter Cove.

Not worth $300

Great location, but disappointing for the price. There were some blinds that were either not fully functioning or were missing. The bed was not comfortable. The deck outside our "apartment" had planks that were broken, making it hazardous if we had brought children with us. The only heating source was an electric fireplace, after finding the thermostat simply clicked but did not function. Aside from these issues, the unit was very clean.

What a view!

What a view we had from the back door of the room! There are chairs and a small table overlooking the black sands beach and ocean. Very peaceful. There were seal lions and birds on the nearby rocks. It's a great place to relax. The room was very comfortable and clean with all the expected amenities. The hotel also has a small restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch, but not every day, I think.

My night at Shelter Cove

We stayed in the jacuzzi room with balcony. Room was nice and clean, balcony view was great, and the Jacuzzi tub in the room was perfect for warming up after being in the cold. The place needs a little maintenance on the exterior, our bathroom sink was old and outdated with cracks in it. It didn’t have a drain cover so you could see down the drain at the mold build up in the pipe, which was a little gross for me. The biggest issue was the drive to the place. It’s 22 miles off Hwy 1, but the road is very slow and winding. Wasn’t able to drive very fast and it took at least an hour or more to get there and then back to the highway the next morning. There was a nice coffee shop on the floor level with some pretty good pastries.

Amazing location. Scary as hell road in and out. Room was nice. Communication with management was horrible. Shades in room we're broken and in some cases missing.

Mediocre at best

Hotel is mediocre, towels and linens are extremely cheap. The upstairs rooms do have a gorgeous ocean view. Paid for a King suite with Ocean view and hot tub. After checking in room did not have a hot tub, called manger and was notified that there’s only 2 rooms have hot tubs and those two were occupied. Had to explain that we should receive a refund since we paid extra and apparently they just book rooms that don’t exist. Restaurant downstairs is the best part about the hotel.

View!

The view was amazing, just by the sea. I really enjoyed hearing the sea when going to bed. Neighbourhood calm and quiet. We booked an apartment for our one night stay w the family. Appreciated the contactless check in as we were running late and checked in late. It was smooth! I am a wheelchair user and I knew our place not to be completely ADA but hotels.com did state that the apartment was on the bottom floor, this was not the case when we arrived. I emailed the hotel a few days before our arrival w questions like this but they didn’t respond. No batteries for the fireplace. The beds where clean but other places - drawers in the bathroom were full of hairs, dusty furniture.

5-star experience in a 3.5-star property

Shelter Cove is an absolute GEM, WAY off the beaten path. The hotel is in a prime location with beautiful views and direct access to black sands beaches, tide pools and even a lighthouse! The hotel is still being renovated, so it's not perfect. But the staff is helpful and the location is wonderful.

The view to the ocean was world class. For 350+ per night, it would be nice for the balcony door to slide easily; maybe clean the bird poop splatters off the windows; and get improve the wifi situation so guests can use the TV and check their phones. I know this is a remote place, but the cafe downstairs has solid wifi 24/7 . We wished we had checked their password!

Made a reservation for a king bed with an ocean view and a jetted tub. Arrived to a Room on the ground, with no ocean view and no tub. It was unacceptable! Called the property manager and had to complain in order to get a room closer to what I reserved. It still didn’t have a jetted tub, I was told that’s all they had. They also sent me the door opening codes to two other guests rooms along with their room numbers. Room issues: leaky fridge, electric sounds/humming throughout the night, uncomfortable Bed, no jetted tub. Extremely slow wi-fi, streaming/devices were interrupted throughout stay. Management didn’t respond about making things right. Just charged me and didn’t respond to my feedback.

What a View!

What a view! This hotel is not new and not perfect in terms of decor, but the price was great and the proximity to the water and the views were amazing. The cafe has really good food as well.

Last minute trip and this hotel had one room. When we arrived we had the code, checked in and were delighted by the view! High ceilings were nice as well!
