There is a hauntingly wonderful quality about this place. No longer the debutante, she’s getting some much needed cosmetic surgery. Just be aware that you will not be walking into a time capsule, pristine from the days of the Charleston. However, you’ll be walking the same halls as traveled by FDR & Eleanor, Mae West, Al Capone, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, etc etc. Just walk in and know that you’re in a landmark and it’s not the Holiday Inn. However, the things that aren’t done give a sense of excitement as to how they will be when they ARE done because they will be. I was on the 10th floor and my room offered a splendid view down Central Ave. Walk out of the front door and within steps you’re on the walking trails. I did not dine at the hotel as I have never been to Hot Springs and wanted to take in more than simply the fare of the opulent Venetian Dining Room. I definitely recommend The Pancake Shop and Rolando’s. If you stay at the Arlington, use their bathhouse. A wonderful experience that does feel very much like a frozen moment in time from days gone by. When you’re ready for your appointment, simply pick up the telephone by the dedicated elevator, and an attendant will be up to greet you in the utterly magnificent elevator. From that moment on,a century melts away and you experience a little slice of the Roaring Twenties. I urge anyone interested in quaffing the waters to give the Arlington a try. You might even leave having made some new friends as I did!
