The "Braids" has been my favourite Edinburgh hotel for many years. Sadly, she's now a bit of a faded glory. The decor is outdated and paintwork, carpets etc are getting shabby. The staff were polite but disinterested and the quality of the food is barely average. Breakfast ends at 09.00 - I arrived at 08.50 when there were some tired leftovers but no tea or orange juice. I'll probably give the old girl another chance for auld lang syne but couldn't recommend her to others.

We've stayed here several times and the staff are always friendly and the food very good. It's in a great location with easy access to buses going to the centre, plus there's ample parking. Rooms vary - this time we booked two nights in a Deluxe which had a lovely view and spacious bathroom. The decor isn't perhaps what you would expect in such a grand Scottish building but the glitzy wallpaper and large silver horsehead bedside lamps might go as the hotel is currently being refurbished. For an Edinburgh stay in low season, it's very good value.

For the money we paid the room was excellent. We had a lovely view of the park with a corner window which was Beautiful. The room was lovey and clean and we had tea coffee facilities, fresh towels and shampoo and shower gels. The breakfast was delicious for the money too. We would definitely revisit this hotel for the money we paid. The bus stop to Edinburgh city centre was right outside the hotel down some steps and ran very frequently. It only took 15 minutes to princess street and you could get to the Royal mile near the castle and there 10 minutes walk. Really good location and 100 value for money.

This hotel was perfect for our visit to Edinburgh, room was very warm, clean, bed was comfortable. The breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. The hotel had a bus stop down some steps that took you into Edinburgh, the buses were very regular. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will return.
