There is a lot to like about Alito Hotel. The location is fantastic; you really can’t get too much closer to the ruins, if that’s on your bucket list. The beautiful beach is right there, and they have a pretty darn good breakfast that’s included. Rooms are a bit dated, but that also adds to the charm. Staff are very pleasant, as long as you don’t go to the water cooler too many times.
But therein lies the rub. Because one is required to discard plastic water bottles upon entering the Zona Archeologica, there is no way to access potable water aside from what you can get from Alito. Their single water dispenser is located near the front desk, and we went there often to refill our glasses and reusable bottle. After about the sixth time in one day, they started giving us some pointed looks.
There were two times that we went to the water dispenser and it was empty, and there was no one at the front desk. We tried going down to the restaurant for water, but they denied us outright unless we bought something. Fortunately I had an old water filter that I had packed, otherwise I’m not sure what we would have done.
Basically, it seemed as though the aim of Alito was for us to be dependent upon getting our drinks through the restaurant, at their set prices. Since there are no markets within easy walking distance, this put us in a difficult position with regards to the basic necessity of hydration.
Price is decent for hotels along this strip, and the place is comforta
