Great stay, even better food!

The stay was great. Rooms modern, with all facilities you needed for a pleasant stay. Beds were very comfortable, USB sockets very handy. The restaurant was superb, some of the best lamb I’ve ever had!

Stunning Setting, Disappointing Details

The hotel is stunning, but the service was disappointing. At check-in, no information was provided about the breakfast times, the location of the breakfast room, or the spa facilities. I had to ask multiple questions to get even the most basic details, which left a poor first impression. Housekeeping was also inconsistent, with unvacuumed carpets and bathroom bin left uncleared. Overall, while the hotel’s appearance and some staff members impressed, the lack of clear communication, inconsistent housekeeping, and poor spa management took away from what could have been a truly enjoyable stay.

Lovely setting & comfortable room

Lovely hotel, really liked the garden out the front and the seating outside. Shame the umbrellas on the tables weren’t working. The room in the stable building was nice & a comfortable bed but the door to leave the building banged every time someone went through it that we could hear in the room.

Pleasant enough hotel check in not very helpful no information about the hotel other than where the room was. Not very clear at booking that it wasn’t a half board package, as booked, but actually bed & breakfast with a £25 contribution to dinner (which didn’t go very far) Dinner and breakfast were okay apart from sunny D at breakfast, a quality hotel with no fresh orange juice was a bit disappointing

Facilities and Service

We booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 children, but the sofa bed was only made up for 1 person. 1 set of towels and 1 pillow. I informed reception and I was willing to wait for the pillow as the kids were ready for bed, but they said they would deliver them. It was after 10.30pm on them delivering them and we were all in bed!! We were also very disappointed that the jacuzzi was out of order as the spa facilities was the main reason for the stop over at this particular hotel. The breakfast was very tasty.

Extremely underwhelming for cost

Upon arrival the check in staff were not overly friendly, and it was not a great welcome to the hotel. Once we got into the room and upon checking the facilities the bathroom was in a shocking condition with the toilet and tiles coming away from the wall (hanging off the wall) Upon reporting this, the response was I think maintenance has gone home for the day so we will move you to another room… with a minimal apology. The bathroom in the room we were moved to was better, but the flooring felt like it was about to fall through and the toilet again was starting to pull the tiles off.Again when reporting this all we had as a response was we will get maintenance to look at it once you’ve gone. When using the Spa facilities we found these in poor condition. Prior to booking we were advised the pool was due to be refurbished and completed by the time of our stay, this was not done and the tiles on the floor of the pool were absent and coming away during the visit - the jacuzzi was not working and found out from a member this has been the case for about 2 weeks. Changing rooms also had no lockable lockers so had to be left unattended. The women’s showers had about a months worth of hair in the drains, so we showered in the room ( in view of the car park). We were told on check in we had to pay a 75 pound retainer cost for extras we might buy ,we said we wouldn’t be doing that and asked why to be told “it’s policy”. The next morning breakfast was underwhelming and rushed.

Breakfast; fantastic choice available, but why not have maple syrup available for the pancakes? Bar 1630; on two occasions we had the beer battered haddock ... first night (Monday) was really good, light batter etc so we felt happy to try again on Wednesday. However, the batter was burnt, looked like it was left in the fryer too long. I understand that the bar was particularly busy that night but I am wondering if a different chef was on duty? Other suggestions for consideration: - if you know the room is booked for 2 people, why not provide key cards for both? That way they can come/go as they please. - again if 2 people are booked, why not put both sets of towels in the bathroom rather than having guests search for the second set? - not sure if this is standard, but in our room (38) there was only one bedside lamp, although two bedside tables - would also suggest leaving the tea/coffee facilities on a tray on the main table; rather than having guests search - we stayed 3 nights; there was no housekeeping on one day (obviously not expected on the last day); if this is deliberate, then you need to make guests aware Also, in the School Master's House, I would suggest you do something about the hot water pump which is noisy and not ideal. Speaking of noise, and I know you can't do anything about this, but with the main road just outside, and the windows open, perhaps you could make guests aware that it might be a tad noisy on some occasions?

So relaxing and stunning grounds

We loved our stay, the griunds ste OUTSTANDING & we had a fab talk with your gardener who is doing an excellent job. Your check in staff member was so welcoming & informative. He greeted us every time we passed by, checking all was well & always with a smile. He was working Monday so we couldnt thank him & say goodbye. The young man on the bar and serving breakfast was also outstanding so polite, helpful and interested. Again he wasnt in Monday morning for us to grab his name (BUT his friend had won a gold medal on Sunday). Please pass on our grateful thanks he is an asset to the team & will go far, excellent customer service. We were disappointed the jacuzzi wasnt working but that was our only disappointment in 3 nights at the hotel. Thank you for a lovely relaxing break & keep up the eco friendly efforts 👌

Our little getaway

I've stayed here a fee times now and im never disappointed. Staff are always friendly and helpful and one member in particular always remembers us. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Spa facilities lovely and relaxing. Food always tasty.

Poor standards of spa facilities. Loud music.

Booked for a wedding anniversary treat at this spa hotel for my wife and I thinking she would get a lovely relaxing spa experience whilst there. Unfortunately the jacuzzi was out of action, as was the steam room and the ice room shower also broken. There were hundreds of mosaic tiles missing from the swimming pool floor with loose tiles on the pool side. Whilst the room was good there was loud music being played until after 3am from neighbouring property. Overall, the lovely trip that I had planned was less than satisfactory.
