Arriving with no vehicle

Due to issues at Boston Logan Airport, we unexpectedly arrived at Publick House Historic Inn without a rental car. This beautiful hotel is spread over a large area and the room we were intended to occupy was some driving distance from the main reception. With no car, we were unable to take the room set aside for us, but were immediately upgraded to a room just steps away and could not have been more grateful to the friendly and welcoming staff.

Really nice on so many levels but…

The Inn is a historic, well preserved & interesting complex on a beautiful piece of land in town. I was looking forward to enjoying the green space and not being in a chain. For the most part it was a good choice. What colored my experience was the room I got stuck in. It was in the original building and thus older, a bit challenging to negotiate (narrow stairs, uneven floors, etc. Those things are not obstacles but worth noting. However, coupled with my room being somewhat small & with windows that overlooked the roof on both sides where there were windows was really disappointing. I couldn’t se anything but the roof. I walked around the property & went in to the large Inn adjacent & felt cheated. It was beautiful, airy and light. Many comfortable sitting areas. They should save my room for when they are full & need the space. I felt that because I was alone I got the short straw.

You won’t want leave

We stay at the Publick House Inn 3-4 per year on our trips back and forth between Maine and Ohio. We always try to stay in the historic inn, have dinner and cocktails at Ebeneezer’s Tavern, and start each day at the Bake Shoppe. Front desk staff consistently provide exceptional customer service at check-in and checkout. Ebeneezers Tavern has excellent food and cocktails. Sarah, our favorite bartender is one of the reasons we return here to eat and drink. The Bake Shoppe is incredible in every aspect the bakers create marvelous pastries and baked goods. The complimentary assortment of baked goods available for breakfast is beyond expectations. Coffe is delicious and offering the offering of Harney and Sons tea raises the bar to a level that would be difficult for other inns and bakeries to achieve. Kathleen, Marie, Donna, and Janessa are so welcoming and friendly you feel like you’re having breakfast with best friends. If you have the opportunity to stay here I highly recommend it. The toughest part is checking out because you won’t want to leave.

Old-fashioned and Beautiful

I stayed in one of the old hotel buildings perched on the hill next to their ceremonial garden. The property is very well maintained as is the pool. The room had every basic amenity that I needed. For all questions I asked the front desk concierges whom were very accomodating. Great place to stay 👍

This is a lovely, historic Inn with decent dining options but there are some inconveniences such as needing to go to the front desk to get ice and locked doors later in the evenings. The staff is very pleasant and helpful and the room well-appointed and comfortable.

A great place to stay and visit history, too!

This historic Inn is a visit into history. There are original room available, but plenty of modern ones, too. The grounds are well maintained. The staff is very friendly and just waiting to help you. Do not overlook the bakery! Old and new recipes right there. The food is excellent.

Beautiful and cozy

A/C in window blocked by long drapes or if left open, no privacy. On display! Kind of loud but ok, just made TV louder. If short like I am, bed was very high and had a hard time getting in and out. Other than those few things, it’s a beautiful place to stay. This was our 3rd time and planning another hopefully in December for my Grandson’s birthday!

Pleasantly Surprised

I was just looking for a place to me to spend the night on my way to Cape Cod from Buffalo, New York, and I had been to Sturbridge before, so I looked there. Cuz, it's a nice little town. I was pleasantly surprised to find this 2 star. Rated hotel motel that everyone who reviewed it said was great and once I arrived, I had to agree the facility was spotless. The pool was beautiful and clean. There was a pastry shop on-site. Was walking distance to many local attractions? And we enjoyed our stay tremendously. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and helpful. And we will return again probably next year.
