Hidden gem on the river

An amazing weekend away. Went for our anniversary and couldn’t have picked a better stay. Everything was spotless and friendly. We had a beautiful view from our deck of the beach on the other side of the river and the German restaurant downstairs was delicious as well.

Charm! Charm! Charm! From the moment I drove up in the driving rain, until pulling out in the drizzle, Highland Dell Lodge exceeded my expectations! Check in was the self explanatory keys in an envelope taped to the door. The lobby was cozy and artistically designed with board games by a river stone fireplace. Up the stairs to my modest sized room with a balcony overlooking the river and I found the peace I was hoping for to ring in the new year. French doors I opened to the sound of the rain and ducks greeting each other. A comfortable bed, crisp linens, good options on the TV, and a shallow but long bathtub gave me much needed repose. Sleep came easy after hearing the sounds of revelry echoing on the river at Midnight. In the morning, included breakfast in the event center. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays with lights, a tree, village houses and gifts. Continental breakfast options included fresh fruit, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, juice, cereals, an array of fresh baked goods, and more. The patio with a bridge and river view was a tranquil spot for my first meal of the new year. A checkout and chat with the amiable host and owner of Highland Dell completed my stay. I highly recommend a stay, or even hosting an event at this beautiful and comfortable venue.

Very quaint hotel with a view of the river. Breakfast was continental; dinner was in the dining room or outside on the patio. Only issue was that there is no elevator and rooms are upstairs. I struggled with my bags up and down stairs. There was staff there but they paid no attention. Other older guests were there so I’m not sure how they managed.

We stayed at the Lodge for a wedding and the staff was great, friendly, food was excellent, especially the apple strudel with homemade whip cream. It was quiet, clean, easy parking. The only reason not awarded 5 stars is because the rooms are tad small for 4 people, so not much room to layout suit cases or sit on something other than the bed.

The owners and staff at this hotel are wonderfully kind, attentive and friendly. They treat guests with a personal approach which is completely rare these days. They make you feel as if you really are guest in their home, which in fact you are, as this is a family run business. So refreshing after most places which are completely impersonal and run only for profit. This place is charming, spotlessly clean, wonderful included breakfast and they have an excellent restaurant as well as a popular bar. The hotel is exceptionally quiet and the setting by the Russian River surrounded by the beautiful trees and greenery makes this feel like a safe haven. It is a really specia place.
