Pleasant one night stay at Stern Hotel

Very happy with my stay, including checkin, the room itself, the top notch restaurant and the breakfast (included with the room charge). All of the staff were very friendly and professional and spoke English.

One of the main things that defines how good a hotel is, is the first impressions that you get from reception after a long day travelling. This was not good. We were given a form to fill in by a lady who did not speak as she was on a phone call at the same time. We were then allocated room 224. Do not accept this room. We booked a deluxe double room and this room was little bigger than a box, very dark with only one window and sparsely decorated. We then had to go back to reception to question why we had not been given a quality of room that we had reserved. Receptionist then after tapping tapping away at her computer muttering in German to her colleague, gave us a key to another room - 228 and told us to have a look at it rather than she show us the room.It was much lighter than previous, although nothing like the pictures on the hotel website, very spacious and more the standard that we would have expected. We then had to move our own luggage from one room to another. Not an ideal start. We asked about their restaurant and was told it was full. They have a bar that they call the Carigiet bar which they advertise as being "a meeting place for hotel guests in a stylish atmosphere". We asked where this was as it turned out to be another dark and dingy room with no people in and no staff. You had to go and look for someone to get you a drink. Very liitle choice on the drinks menu. Hotel is in a good position to the railway station ( 5-10 minute walk) & the old town.

Amazing hotel to stay. Accommodated our 1 year old with a cot and blanket. Beautiful room filled with so much character and history. The staff were lovely, also wanting to help with anything. Location was perfect for walking to most sightseeing attractions

Dated attic room with no climate control

The area is interesting. The staff was friendly but the room was terrible. As a family of four we were put in an old attic room with furniture from the 90s. Bathroom was clean but also had 1990s fixtures. The room was too hot and hilumid. Windows were small with no views. No art or decorations on the walls. Seemed like we were in a storage room for their old furniture.
