Needs some TLC

Chose Smokehouse because of its British charm, which it has in abundance. Sadly the hotel is little lacking in quality, more of an issue when paying a premium. The service was just ok. Polite team but no real enthusiasm to go the extra mile, despite encouraging words. Their saving grace is the food, especially the roasts and English Breakfast, which were excellent. Give the hotel some TLC and it could be worth the premium rate.

As you can see from the photos, it is a lovely building and the gardens and flowers are superb. The room was quite compact. The breakfast was superb. The value for money is questionable.

This is our second time at this hotel. We love the Timeless quality of this hotel. The large, fireplace seating areas are perfect for a cup of tea or a glass of wine. Our room was large and faced the first class Garden surrounding the hotel. We got an upgrade and will return. Excellent staff!

Charming, cosy, lovely stay

I have heard so much about the rooms in Smokehouse. Needless to say I was still surprised at the suite that was allocated to us - Ambleside Suite. It was spacious. It was beautiful. It was rustic. It was comfortable and cosy. Of the few remaining rooms of the original building, it was a treat. The living was huge. Huge TV, some condiments and a Nespresso machine. A rather cute fireplace that look decorative. There were some lamps that tried to light up the somewhat dark room after sunset. The bedroom with 4-posters bed was charming. Clean sheets, firm beds, really warm duvets for the usually cold nights. Toilets spacious and clean. Good supply of heated water. Amenities were provided. It was a tad bit difficult keeping the toilet dry during showering and it got a little slippery. One could just unwind at this lovely place enjoying good afternoon tea with one the best scones in Cameron Highlands served with clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam. It was bliss. Restaurant and bar closes rather early at 9:30pm. Otherwise the location of smokehouse may be of a distance to Tanah Rata and Brinchang town, but with the cooler climate in Cameron Highland, it is nice to go for walks. Information on the suites don't come by easily. I've been trying to search for the suites and rooms the hotel has to offer.

Hotel combining old world charm and modernities

We stayed a Saturday night at this hotel. The room was a large suite and was filled with beautifully maintained antique funiture but was clean and functional. Modern touches such as fast wifi, TV with Astro for the World Cup and a Nespresso machine were fantastic. The bathroom was large and well appointed. We ate at the restaurant (afternoon tea and dinner) and drank at the bar which is just like an old English bar complete with fireplace. The food was good and reasonably priced. The hotel is centrally located in the Highlands. It was reasonably pricey compared to other options but was well worth it.

Un hôtel avec un charme indeniable, suite très spacieuse qui mériterait d’être rénovée. On a l’impression d’être à une autre époque... Notre chambre était confortable mais bruyante, en cause, le groupe froid qui ventile, et la route très passante à proximité. Le restaurant est très bien, avec des prix europeens. je recommande cet hôtel pour son charme anglais.

Needs investment soon!

We stayed at this hotel 27 years ago and enjoyed its quirky theme. However, there appears to have been a lack of investment and inspiration over the years. We were given a family room which had windows opening onto the industrial waste bins in the courtyard below, the smell from the bins and the musty smell of the old furnishings was extremely unpleasant. The room was in need of a total renovation. Rooms, food and drinks are all comparatively expensive. On a positive note, the staff were very pleasant. Unfortunately, after looking forward to revisiting after such a long time, we couldn’t wait to check-out.

Hotel in the highlands with an old English charm

We stayed at the smokehouse for two nights whilst visiting the highlands and loved it. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The room wasn’t modern but exactly as expected being based on an old English pub - a bit tired in places but with an indescribable charm. Thank you for a lovely stay!
