Newton Hall is a beautiful building with a truly stunning interior. We stayed in Calla Olivera, one of the courtyard rooms, and the décor was lovely. The bed was extremely comfortable, with cosy pillows and a warm duvet, and we appreciated the thoughtful complimentary amenities such as coffee, water, biscuits, chocolate, and the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided.
However, there were a few areas that impacted our overall experience. The room itself felt a little tired, with flickering spotlights, and it wasn’t as clean as we would have expected — the bath still had residue from previous use. The most significant issue, though, was the temperature. The room was very cold, with the heating not making much difference. The bathroom, in particular, had freezing slate tiles, a noticeable draught from the window, and the radiator didn’t seem to be turned up enough.
I appreciate that it was exceptionally cold outside (around -7°C), which is exactly why having a warm, welcoming room would have made such a difference. After returning from a five-hour walk, we were really looking forward to warming up with a hot bath, but being welcomed back to such a cold room was disappointing. I imagine the room would be absolutely beautiful in summer, but during colder months, ensuring adequate warmth would greatly improve the guest experience.
