3rd time having stayed here it still doesn’t disappoint, from the staff who are all so very lovely, to the grounds, to the entrance to the rooms, my only criticism is the room we had was a bit tired but very clean, spacious and cosy we will defo be back

First impressions are good. The windows all need replacing however and our room was very cold until we kept the curtains closed and stuffed them behind the radiator. Overall, the room seemed clean and mostly smart but when you look closer, it’s time for a make-over. Switch to refillable toiletries, our room wasn’t made up despite our asking. I believe Britannia now own this building so not optimistic this hotel can be restored to the flag-ship upmarket hotel it once was. Lots of money needed to even re-glaze the building and £47 per night isn’t enough.

Lighting was awful in the rooms. The use of the gym and swimming was an additional £7 per person which hotel guests have to pay too (not included). Never been to a hotel where the normal facilities aren't included in the stay.

Windows were open in room when we checked in so it was cold. Booked a twin room but we received a double room, spoke to reception and were told that it was hotel.com’s fault, nothing they could do. Pillows were very hard, had no give in them. The curtains weren’t blackout so room was still very light in the middle of the night Overall, didn’t get much sleep, not the best experience.

Super friendly staff, reasonable food, rooms a bit dated but the ground floor areas were great - this used to be a 5* hotel and you can tell by the quality of the public areas. Great health club. Ace location to get in and out of Newcastle in a cab.

We understood we booked a double cosy room, but the curtains were hanging on for dear life, the main radiator did not work in our room, even though the reception lied and said it would turn on at 5.30pm. In the room was an oil radiator which we had on but it didn't warm the room at all, said radiator had a missing wheel too. The mattress was awful and were only provided 1 single rock hard pillow each. It was a room where it was cleaner to leave your shoes on. The only plus was they were instant hot water in the bathroom and thank goodness as we had to have a hot shower to try to get warm. Room was 503. Would definitely not recommend, unless you want cheap & cheerful stag do accommodation, then it would be perfect!
