Check in could have been better. We arrived at 4pm check-in was at 3 and front desk said our room was not ready…they went and checked with house keeping and and said our room was ready. Super confusing! We went to our room and the heater wasn’t working. I went down to the front desk and their first response is that they were supposed to fix it. They called their boss about it and then proceeded to ask me when is a good time to meet with me in the next hour. This is New Year’s Eve mind you. I said for what? They said they’d like to talk to me about an exchange. I said what exchange. I ended up calling my wife who was still in the room and she said the heater kicked on. Anyways, the hospitality piece is missing and the linens were dirty. I don’t think I’d stay here again.

From the moment I walked in the experience was horrific. I was standing at the front talking to the front desk guy and another guest walks behind me and grazes my butt with the back of his hand as he walks by when there was plenty of room on the other side of him. I said to him excuse me sir you just touched my ass you need to watch yourself. His first response was that it was his backpack straps (which it wasn’t because they were behind him) then he starts going off saying how he would never do that because I was ugly anyways etc. Meanwhile I realize I’m dealing with an absolute psychopath so I just stay quiet. He starts complaining to the front deak guy and the front desk guy apologized to him!?? Like WHAT!? The ventilation system blows in air that smells like fried food to the room. There is ZERO lighting just a dim yellow we couldn’t even properly get ready. The girl at check out said she was gonna email my reciept, she didn’t. I had to call later on and some guy said he needed a manager to send me the receipt. I said well that girl in the am was not a manager and she said she was gonna send it so then he asks for my email because there’s apparently no email on file and sends it! I asked him if he was a manager and he said no, I asked so how could you send it based on what you JUST said 2 mins ago. So twice two workers lied to me. The only good thing was the beds were cozy and the margs were 10/10 at the bar. The towels smelled like old bodily fluids to put it nicely.

This was the nicest shared room I have ever stayed in. The staff is extremely helpful and incredibly friendly. The rooms are quiet, you cannot hear the bar downstairs. Highly recommend!

KEX is a very clean, no frills hotel/hostel in Portland with a fantastic lobby and bar. The food was inventive, fresh and tasty. Good cocktails, and even better service....just enough attention to get what I wanted and plenty of space to just enjoy the scene.

The staff were very inconsistent with my stay. I had a one bedroom and in a day was moved to a bunk room of four for no reason. So I went from 314 to 313 and had to pay fee after fee. Even though I was still the same resident from Tues through friday. They are not consistent, made me move rooms and made it apparent I’d have to leave my luggage with them before checkin. This had not occurred since I stayed at the hotel.

I got there and had to pay an incidentals fee that was higher than I was told it would be when I booked, then the blue haired gentlemen that was at the front desk said “you won’t find any place without a deposit”, I said yes but I’m rooming with 16 other people. He seemed bothered during our whole interaction. Then in the middle of the night I was woken up to a flash light in my face saying that I was in the wrong bunk. Okay, so you wake me up to say that and that’s it. There were empty bunks everywhere, I found this interaction to be so rude. I must have read the bunk card wrong, the blue hair gentleman told me that I couldn’t get a bottom bunk and the room would be full, so I got a top bunk only to be woken up to be told I made a mistake. The staff was extremely rude and pretentious, not helpful and I would never go back.
