Learn more about Del Rio

Across the Rio Grande from Mexico, this border town offers unexpected delights beyond its dusty exterior. San Felipe Creek creates a natural oasis where families splash in clear waters beneath shade trees. Val Verde Winery, Texas' oldest continuously operating vineyard, pours samples in a setting seemingly unchanged since 1883. The Whitehead Memorial Museum tells tales of frontier life with surprising humor. Amistad Reservoir beckons with bass fishing and prehistoric rock art. Devils River State Natural Area rewards adventurers with crystalline waters and star-filled skies. After exploring, join locals at family-owned taquerias where homemade salsa and conversation flow freely across languages. Don't miss the view from the international bridge – two nations, one community, divided only by water.

Lake Amistad
At the confluence of the Pecos and Rio Grande Rivers, this lake was a wonderful stop for a dip. This site was in Diablo East section just west of the Visitor Center and before one gets to the bridge.
